National Geographic examines its past coverage of race

In their review of their own history, National Geographic categorically and unequivocally acknowledges their shortcomings - whether it's exoticizing people of color, objectifying them, or silencing them by not hearing their voices. This is the launch of a year-long examination and I'm here for it. This introduction ends with this quote from one contributor, Michael Norris: “It’s hard for an individual—or a country—to evolve past discomfort if the source of the anxiety is only discussed in hushed tones.”
